A Beauty of Needs Practice

When thinking about the beauty of needs like gratitude, celebration, and appreciation, the early morning view from my window comes to mind.

I see the sunrise and my entire being is flooded with whatever chemicals we produce when we experience a joy so powerful that our entire body feels that joy. My breath pauses. Tears well up. My throat and chest feel a surge like… love?

I’m nearly speechless, “Wow! Wow! Wow!”

What an incredible gift to see and to appreciate this spectacular event. What a gift is nature and its beauty.

Talk about feeling the feelings! Awe, excitement, and wonder surge into what seems like every cell of my body. I don’t have the words to describe what I see, yet I want so much to share.

It might be an intense pink, coral, and burnt orange with the outline of the Cascade Range in blue or gray—with the tops of evergreen trees in the foreground, a lighter sky above, and often a swirl of chaotic clouds above that. Each moment brings a new image of intensity and light.

Sometimes it’s a golden sunrise with bursts of glowing strands of light spreading up in a fan of rays that brighten the sky and highlight the wispy clouds that dance above the rising ball.

I do feel gratitude but so much more, ecstasy—what a feeling! It fuels me for the day. It brings me alive.

What brings you joy? What sparks your gratitude? What brings you alive? How does it feel in your body?
